Natural Fiber Arts - Teanaway Community Forest

Learn how to identify, sustainably harvest, and process fireweed for natural fibers from Bambie Miller (Parke Creek Farms). Bambie is a local organic farmer, fiber artist, and trained marine naturalist who raises goats and sheep outside of Ellensburg. Following a major fire year, fireweed is abundant above the community forest, and you’ll learn elements of sustainable harvesting and responsible recreation alongside the lesson on making fibers from fireweed. Join us at the Teanaway Campground walk-in sites for a workshop on natural fiber art. Check in before 10AM to get set up and use the camping area vault toilets. Registration is free, but limited to 20 people, and those of all ages are encouraged to join us, so long as they’re comfortable sitting for a workshop. You will need a Discover Pass for parking. Bring: water, a camp chair if you’d prefer one to the picnic table, and gloves. Rubber work gloves and fireweed plants will be provided.
